Americans have a difficult time imagining a life with bomb shelters and plans for an imminent attack from terrorist organizations or from hostile neighboring countries. However, for Israel’s citizens, this is a daily reality. For the past few years, Ministry to Israel has been involved in sending teams of workers through Practical Assistance Tours into the northern part of Israel to help improve and upgrade large bomb shelters. The most recent project was a 3000 square foot bomb shelter that served some 400 people living in a ten story building in the northern city of Tsfat. |

Long before I saw Israel for the first time, the mental pictures playing in my mind when I read the Bible were that of desert sands, camels ,and a very hot climate. I had no idea that it could get as cold as it does here until I began living in Israel in the late 1980s. I was unpleasantly surprised. Shocked would be a better term. It seems that no matter how many layers you don on a winter’s day, you’re still cold. In mid-January this year I got a call from an Israeli friend asking if Ministry to Israel would be willing to provide field jackets for some shivering soldiers fighting in Gaza. It’s one thing to be on the battlefield dodging bullets, but to be freezing cold in that situation was more than I could imagine. We began looking for ways to help and came up with enough money to help purchase 125 reversible Jackets. You would have thought we had given each of these soldiers a million dollars! |

Not every Jew wants to return to Israel. For years, our "Fishermen" (Christians working with MTI, dedicated to helping Jews immigrate to Israel) have worked in every area imaginable throughout the Former Soviet Union; from conged industrial cities, to farm villages and even to the most remote and hard to reach regions of snow covered Siberia. For many, the yearning to immigrate to Israel has been a long standing passion but for others the desire to leave their familiar surroundings doesn't run as deep. Understandably, there is considerable apprehension on the part of Jews who are concerned about the numerous obstacles of beginning a new life in another country. |
